Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
