The artist has donated the full amount of his £25k honor prize money to the trust for venues, which works to save the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

He was presented with the cheque on 16 October as his third album his work was declared the top album of the past year.

He has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots played in his early career.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to issues arising from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained funding support in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from concerts in large arenas backs the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.

The musician is not the first artist to donate his award prize money to good deeds.

In the band received the prize in the mid-90s for their release their work, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, artist the artist divided her award across a few charities, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a grand to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told the media.

Previously, they gave their winnings to the local youth club that developed their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year they gave their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked artist Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved several local spots in that region, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and The Croft in Bristol were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who buy "shares" in the venues.
